West Brom: Doctor issues Matt Phillips injury update post surgery

West Brom midfielder Matt Phillips could return to training during the international break, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that it takes three months for players to usually recover from hamstring surgeries.

The 33-year-old underwent his surgery before Christmas and with the players out until the final days of the month, he is on track to make his return.

Speaking exclusively with West Brom News about Phillips’ situation, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said:

“Hamstring surgeries are typically around three months, with some variance so a couple of weeks would put him right around that as he had his surgery before Christmas.

“If that’s the case, he would be ramping up his individual training intensity right now prior to returning to partial team training.

“He could be back to training in the international break and then in contention to return to first-team action shortly after.”

Phillips can be useful as West Brom eye promotion

The Scottish midfielder has made 19 appearances this season under Carlos Corberan, scoring three goals.

He has also provided three assists and has proven to be a lively player in the heart of the Baggies side.

Despite being a midfielder by trade, he has primarily been deployed as a left-back this campaign where he has excelled.

There is a good chance that he’s handed similar duties once he returns to full fitness.
