Jed Wallace lifts lid on Shilen Patel West Brom talks after ‘motivational’ pre-match meeting
West Brom captain Jed Wallace has revealed that Shilen Patel joined the Baggies’ first-team squad for their pre-match meal ahead of their clash with QPR.
The American businessman has completed his takeover to become the majority shareholder at The Hawthorns and end Gouchan Lai’s tenure and his arrival has been well received by supporters and players alike.
While Patel has been spotted at a couple of games in the early stages of his tenure, Wallace has lifted the lid on his impact behind the scenes and suggested that he has been incredibly motivating as the Baggies push for the playoffs.
As quoted by Birmingham Live on Monday (18 March) he said: “He spoke to us before the QPR game and came to introduce himself to the lads – to be honest, it was very motivational what he said to us.
“He said we have an opportunity to make the fans really proud this season – and we shouldn’t take that opportunity for granted. It was great to see him, he had a pre-match meal with us.
“Things like that go a long way, being around a group of players, and I know he’s keen to come and watch a lot of our games, and that’s the way it should be. From the ground staff upwards, we all feel as though we’re pushing in the right direction.”
Will Carlos Corberan guide West Brom to the playoffs this season?
There is a feel-good feeling around The Hawthorns at this moment in time that cannot be undervalued. Patel’s takeover partnered with Albion’s impressive Championship form has boosted the mood around Carlos Corberan’s side.
Albion’s win over Bristol City has ensured that most expect them to be one of the six teams in the playoffs this season and their recent form will mean that very few teams will fancy a trip to The Hawthorns.

Patel has immediately bought into Corberan and West Brom’s plan and as Wallace suggested, it has become increasingly clear that everyone involved with the Baggies are pulling in the same direction, something that hasn’t always been true.
Hopefully, Albion will be able to make the final step in the coming weeks and months and make this a season to remember. Corberan’s side has shown this season that they can beat anybody over 90 minutes.
