West Brom: Yann M’Vila earns ‘brilliant’ praise for 100% display v Bristol City
Yann M’Vila made his West Brom debut from the bench against Bristol City and earned high praise for putting in an impressive display while fasting for Ramadan.
His captain Jed Wallace was stunned by the midfielder’s professionalism, comparing the differences between playing normally and playing during Ramadan.
As shared by Birmingham Live [19 March], Wallace shared: “Yann coming on, he’s not played for a year and he is doing Ramadan and he’s come on for 15 minutes, I thought he was brilliant.
“There are things you don’t see, his professionalism. Yann was brilliant, he’s worked hard day in, day out and the manager knows the quality he’s got.
“It’s hard enough coming on when you’ve got a belly full of pasta, let alone when you haven’t eaten since the morning, probably 4am. He was brilliant and his career speaks for itself.”
Yann M’Vila thrives on West Brom debut v Bristol City
Despite the limited time on the pitch, coming on as a substitute and playing less than 15 minutes of football, the midfielder managed to display just what he is capable of providing to Carlos Corberan’s team.
His more defensive role was less important given West Brom’s relative control over the game as they held the majority of the possession, but with one interception and a 100 per cent duel success rate, M’Vila gave a hint as to what his game will look like. [Sofascore]
In possession, the midfielder’s passing was less precise than many would like, completing five of eight attempted passes at a success rate of 63 per cent and losing the ball four times from ten touches, although two of those were from long passes which were cut out.
This comes despite M’Vila having hardly played for around a year, which will have seen him spend the majority of his time since arriving at The Hawthorns building up fitness and working to understand what will be asked of him.

It’s a small sample size, of course, but he should only continue to improve and impress with more minutes in his legs, and given the high praise from his captain, M’Vila looks to be a popular figure at West Brom already.
