Celtic ready to sell Mikey Johnston, West Brom won’t be only team in transfer pursuit
Celtic are ready to sell on-loan West Brom ace Mikey Johnston, although the Baggies will face competition, according to Chris Dunlavy.
Writing in the Football League Paper (page 10, 24 March), Dunlavy claims that the Hoops are prepared to let Johnston leave permanently, despite his impressive form at The Hawthorns.
Johnston’s medical history is a concern for the Glasgow giants, who are ready to cash in while his stock is high.
Their asking price will depend on interested parties, but should the forward continue in this form, Dunlavy claims that “West Brom will not be the only Championship club in pursuit.”
Will Mikey Johnston make his stay with West Brom at The Hawthorns permanent?
This news will come as music to Baggies supporters’ ears.
Johnston has been in terrific form since arriving at the club in January, scoring six goals and providing one assist in 10 Championship matches as he helps Carlos Corberan’s side maintain their promotion push.
With Celtic keen to let him go, that is part one ticked off for Corberan, now it is just a case of convincing the player that The Hawthorns is the right place for him.
West Brom are currently fifth, eight points clear of seventh-placed Hull City albeit having played a game more.
Should the Baggies achieve promotion to the Premier League, it is unlikely to take much to convince Johnston to join them on that journey.
And even if they are unsuccessful in their promotion pursuit, the club hold the advantage of having already formed a connection with Johnston, which could play into their hands in any transfer negotiations.

They say to never fall in love with a loan player, but in West Brom’s case, it might be allowed on this occasion.
