Shilen Patel sends seven-word message after what happened in West Brom Women v Wolves Women

Shilen Patel has sent a message of support to West Brom Women after ther suffered a 2-0 loss to Wolves Women on Friday (22 March).

The Baggies have experienced a positive March in the FA WNL Northern Premier Division, securing three points against Huddersfield Town, Stourbridge and Halifax Town, as well as drawing with Burnley.

Despite taking the game to the home side at Molineux, West Brom were unable to respond to goals from Amber Hudges and Tammi George either side of the half-time whistle.

Following the loss, Patel took to X to offer support on Saturday (23 March), writing: “Tough derby loss but more wins ahead.”

Black Country derby passion runs through West Brom

With the Men’s team coming up against Wolves in the FA Cup in January, also facing a 2-0 loss to their rivals, everyone at The Hawthorns are aware of the passion that goes hand-in-hand with the Black Country derby.

Fans were devastated when Carlos Corberan’s team succumbed to defeat against a Premier League outfit, with some very confident that the Baggies could pull off an FA Cup shock. However, Pedro Neto and Matheus Cunha had other ideas.

Of course, the match would eventually be shadowed by controversy amongst the fans, after a Wolves fan was found in the home end at The Hawthorns, which caused a lot of anger.

Though it was not a positive end to a disappointing result, it showed the passion that West Brom fans have for defeating their rivals, and this feeling clearly crosses over to the Women’s team, with Patel seemingly saddened by the loss.

But being able to play the match at Molineux, in front of thousands of fans, is just the beginning of an exciting journey for West Brom Women, with the next target of claiming promotion out of the Northern Premier Division.

In other West Brom news, the club have confirmed that action has been taken against a supporter who supplied a ticket to a Wolves fan.
