West Brom: Matt Phillips return update shared by Doctor post injury

West Brom left-back Matt Phillips may not be ready to play the full 90 minutes until he features in bounce games, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that he could be training with the same intensity as the rest of his teammates which means a full first-team return.

However, the fact that he has been ruled out for over three months with a hamstring injury means that it will take some time to get back to full fitness.

Speaking exclusively with West Brom News about Phillips’ situation, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said:

I’d reckon he’s pretty close at this stage to being in contention and he could even be training with the same intensity as the other players.

If he’s training with the first team, it means he has passed the majority of tests thus far.

That being said, the transition from training to game minutes is one of the toughest due to the increase in intensity.

“Given how long he’s been out, it might be a few bounce games before he’s ready to play the 90 minutes.”

West Brom given major Phillips injury boost

Carlos Corberan has handed 19 league appearances to the 33-year-old this season prior to his injury.

He has been a useful option in different areas of the pitch, giving the Spaniard much needed flexibility in terms of tactics.

It remains to be seen whether or not he returns at left-back or is given in a role in a more accustomed midfield position.
