West Brom: National media slams Mikey Johnston in 5/10 rating for Republic of Ireland v Belgium
West Brom loan star Mikey Johnston made “no impact” on the Republic of Ireland clash against Belgium.
That is according to Balls.ie, with the Irish publication handing the winger a 5 out 10 match rating in the 0-0 draw on Saturday (23 March).
Johnston, who is on loan at The Hawthorns from Scottish giants Celtic, entered the pitch as a 71st-minute substitute.
Rating Baggies attacker Johnston 5/10 for his performance, Balls.ie wrote: “Had no impact on the game after coming on.”
West Brom ace Mikey Johnston given little time to impress by John O’Shea
A lot has changed in the Republic of Ireland dugout in recent times, with former Manchester United man John O’Shea brought in on an interim basis for the friendly matches against Belgium and Switzerland this month.
But a permanent stay may just be considered should the boss keep up the good work, with 0-0 a very respectable result against European heavyweights Belgium.
But perhaps Baggies ace Johnston won’t be too pleased about playing a minor role at the Aviva Stadium, with the winger playing just under 20 minutes after replacing Blackburn Rovers star Sammie Szmodics.
There is, however, every chance that Johnston will start against the Swiss on Tuesday (26 March), with that match also taking place in the Irish capital.

The Celtic loanee has been hugely impressive during his brief spell at The Hawthorns so far, with Albion manager Carlos Corberan surely wanting to make the move permanent as soon as possible.
In other West Brom news, Baggies fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Shilen Patel issues a new Corberan verdict.
