West Brom: Andreas Weimann could be set for permanent transfer to The Hawthorns

Andreas Weimann could secure a permanent transfer to West Brom this summer if he continues to impress Carlos Corberan with his performances at The Hawthorns.

This comes after the Austrian spoke about the chances of earning a contract at The Hawthorns in a recent interview as he claimed he is focused on achieving promotion this season.

Controversy had emerged surrounding his taunting of the Birmingham fans after scoring the winning goal at The Hawthorns. On top of that, he hit out at a Bristol City fan for what he described as a “totally disrespectful” social media post.

Despite the controversy, his displays since arriving on loan have done plenty to boost his reputation among the fans. Most recently, the forward picked up an assist in the 4-1 win against Huddersfield, playing 56 minutes for Corberan’s side. [Sofascore]

On top of his goal, Weimann recorded a 100 per cent duel success rate both on the ground and in the air, as well as drawing one foul to help drag his team further up the pitch, with his one key pass and big chance created leading to the assist.

The recent interview was conducted while on international duty with Austria after he earned the call based on his performances at The Hawthorns.

Weimann featured in the 2-0 win against Slovakia, coming off the bench for a 20-minute cameo in which he found the back of the net despite touching the ball just eight times and completing two passes.

That sort of finisher’s instinct can be crucial for snatching points in the Championship.

Ex-Aston Villa forward Andi Weimann scored a winner against Birmingham City on his West Brom home debut at The Hawthorns.

Two goals and two assists in his first nine appearances for Albion will make a strong case for the permanent deal, especially on a free transfer, while he can also add plenty of experience to Corberan’s team. He could be playing his way into a contract.

In other West Brom news, another loanee could be set for a permanent exit this summer.
