West Brom ‘Avengers Assembling’ – Brandon Thomas-Asante reacts to fresh injury update

Brandon Thomas-Asante has reacted to the news of his West Brom teammate Josh Maja’s return to training with a post on social media captioned “Avengers Assembling”.

Maja, a summer signing from Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux, has not featured for the Baggies since being forced off in the first half of a 2-1 defeat against former side Sunderland in December.

However, the 25-year-old was pictured in first-team training again and fellow striker Thomas-Asante – who recently returned from his own injury lay-off – is clearly thrilled to have Maja back in the fold.

Carlos Corberan finally has more firepower at his disposal

For much of the season, injury issues have limited West Brom’s potency in attack.

The Baggies’ defensive record has been superb, conceding the third-fewest goals in the Championship (36), but they have been significantly outscored by the other five members of the top six – including Leicester City and Southampton, who have both played fewer games.

However, Carlos Corberan’s men have started to hit their stride from an attacking standpoint in recent weeks, scoring at least twice in their last four league outings – including a 4-1 win over Huddersfield Town – and the returns of Maja and Thomas-Asante are only likely to improve their fortunes in front of goal.

West Brom’s upcoming fixture run – in which they face four members of the division’s bottom half in succession, including last-placed Rotherham – also appears a forgiving environment in which to ease the two strikers back to full fitness.

Thomas-Asante has hit nine Championship goals in 32 appearances this term, while Maja has struck once despite being limited to only nine league outings.

In other West Brom news, the club earned praise for receiving a “fantastic” accolade.
