West Brom: Ally McCoist shares Mikey Johnston transfer verdict in new Celtic admission

Ally McCoist has admitted that he hopes Mikey Johnston will stay at West Brom permanently this summer following his excellent start at The Hawthorns.

The Irish international has been in phenomenal form for the Baggies since arriving on loan from Celtic, scoring six goals and laying on a single assist in just seven Championship starts under Carlos Corberan.

While it remains to be seen whether Albion could afford to take the winger away from Parkhead permanently, McCoist has advocated for a summer transfer as he doesn’t want Celtic to strengthen this summer.

As quoted by Football League World (28 March) he said: “By the way, you’ve got to mention the form of West Brom as well, who have really picked up – Carlos Corberan has done a brilliant job.

“They’ve got Mikey Johnston from Celtic, who, with the greatest respect, I hope he stays there and I hope he continues to do well because I don’t want him coming back up here and scoring those goals for Celtic!”

Will West Brom sign Mikey Johnston permanently from Celtic in the transfer window?

You’d be hard-pressed to find a single West Brom supporter who wouldn’t want to sign Johnston permanently this summer as the winger has been a complete revelation ever since he arrived at The Hawthorns.

The 24-year-old took next to no time to settle into the Championship and has hit the ground running with some extraordinary goals that haven’t only helped the Baggies’ playoff push, but got supporters up and out of their seats.

Mikey Johnston enjoyed his time on loan with West Brom.

It doesn’t appear as though Celtic view him as a player who could step back into the first-team fold this summer, with some pundits suggesting that the Hoops won’t be desperate to get him back to Glasgow this summer.

Hopefully, a deal can be reached between the two parties so that McCoist can get his wish and Johnston can sign with the Baggies permanently at the end of the season. That way, everybody will ultimately be happy.
