Carlos Corberan must drag off anonymous Jed Wallace at HT in West Brom v Millwall

Carlos Corberan must drag off Jed Wallace at half-time following his performance in the first half of the West Brom game against Millwall on Friday (29 March).

The 30-year-old started in attacking midfield, where he looked to interchange with winger Grady Diangana against his former club.

But the Albion captain was largely anonymous throughout the first half as he struggled to make an impact and get up in support of lone striker Andreas Weimann.

That is because it’s still a largely unfamiliar position for him after he’s spent the majority of his career playing on either flank.

He wasn’t the only Baggies player to struggle throughout the opening 45 minutes after it was an extremely slow start to the game from Corberan’s side.

Kyle Bartley was booked with less than 20 minutes on the clock following a cynical challenge on the edge of his box to prevent what was an extremely dangerous attack.

The Lions took the lead shortly after that, though, as the lively Duncan Watmore capitalised on a mistake from Cedric Kipre and provided a lovely finish past Alex Palmer.

They almost made it 2-0 just before the half-hour mark when Michael Obafemi also went through on goal, but he hit his shot straight down the throat of the Albion keeper.

Corberan will be less than pleased with his side’s performance in the first half and will no doubt be thinking about what changes he can make to get them back into the game.

Perhaps Tom Fellows could provide the Baggies with more of an attacking threat after he dropped out of the side that beat Bristol City 2-0 on 16 March.

The 20-year-old, who has been away with the England U-20s side during the latest international break, actually scored in that victory at The Hawthorns.

The winger will surely be the prime candidate to come on and make a difference, with Wallace potentially being the man to make way for him.

That would also bring great joy to the Millwall fans as they booed every time he touched the ball throughout the half at The Den.

But that wasn’t very often after he recorded just 19 touches of the ball and registered an extremely poor 67 per cent pass success rate [SofaScore].

He was also unsuccessful with all three of his attempted dribbles and won just one of his 10 duels as he didn’t do a good enough job for his side going forward.

It wasn’t much better from an attacking perspective for the Englishman, having made two fouls, zero tackles and been dribbled past twice.

Corberan needs to change something following the abject first-half display from his players as they are extremely lucky to go in at half-time just one goal behind.
