Tony Brown slams ‘terrible’ Okay Yokuslu, West Brom star ‘disgusted’ with what he did v Millwall

Tony Brown did not mince his words during a scathing review of Okay Yokuslu’s performances as West Brom drew 1-1 at Millwall on Friday (29 March).

Though the Baggies will be disappointed with the majority of Carlos Corberan’s squad’s performance at The Den, the Turkish midfielder was far below his best and was highlighted during the first half.

Yokuslu has been a mainstay at The Hawthorns this season, starting 35 of Albion’s 39 Championship matches, but that does not mean he is untouchable when it comes to criticism.

Speaking live via BBC Radio WM on Friday (29 March, 1:34pm), Brown said: “Yokuslu hasn’t been in this game, has he? We haven’t seen anything from him in the middle of the park.

“He’s an influential player for Albion and Millwall know that, but he’s got to get involved.”

Having misplaced a simple pass, eventually seeing the ball roll out for a throw-in, the West Brom legend added (1:47pm): “Terrible pass – he’s disgusted with himself with his pass there. He’s been nowhere near the Yokuslu we know.”

Okay Yokuslu far below standards as West Brom face Millwall defeat

It is perfectly normal for star performers to experience a bad day at the office – it is football, after all. But the Baggies are at a stage in the season where teams cannot afford to slip up.

With an 80 per cent pass completion, as per FotMob, the 30-year-old was clearly underperforming against Millwall, dipping way below his 88 per cent season average. [FotMob]

The draw with the Lions has left West Brom susceptible to the prospect of dropping out of the Championship playoff spots, with Norwich City and Hull City hot on their heels.

West Brom boss Carlos Corberan

Of course, both promotion rivals will need to win their respective matches against Plymouth Argyle and Stoke City, but Corberan would much prefer to have had the club’s future in their own hands.

Millwall are by no means a bad team, even despite sitting in sixteenth in the Championship, but for a team hoping to claim promotion to the Premier League this season, they must do much better against the lower teams.
