West Brom: Journalist jokes about what Shilen Patel needs after Millwall draw
Shilen Patel needs a win for West Brom as Carlos Corberan’s side salvaged a draw against Millwall on Friday (29 March).
That was the jokey suggestion of Express and Star journalist Jonny Drury, who pointed out that the new owner at The Hawthorns is yet to witness a Baggies victory in person having been in attendance at The Den.
The result could have been much worse, having gone 1-0 down to a strike from Duncan Watmore after 22 minutes, only for John Swift to score a second-half penalty to draw 1-1.
Taking to X on Friday (29 March), Drury wrote: “Good point for Albion today really. Tell you what though, Shilen Patel needs a win!
“Three games without a victory for the new Baggies chief,” followed by a laughing emoji.
West Brom must remain calm after Millwall slip-up
Of course, Patel is no bad omen at The Hawthorns. After breathing new life into the Championship club, the owner deserves to see his side claim a victory, and what an important one it would have been.
Though a point against the Lions will be far from ideal, especially after Norwich City’s comeback win over Plymouth Argyle, the Baggies are still in a positive place heading into the final matches of the season.
Three points ahead of the Canaries, and seven points above Coventry City, who sit outside the playoffs spots, West Brom are unlikely to drop out of the top six.
It is just extremely unlucky that Patel has not been there to witness a victory recently, especially considering that the team are unbeaten since the 2-0 defeat to Southampton in February – the first game he witnessed.
If Corberan was able to turn a few more of these draws into all three points, there could even be hope of catching Southampton in fourth place. But for now, all eyes are focused on the playoff spots.
In other West Brom news, a Baggies loanee is contemplating a permanent Hawthorns exit.
