West Brom: ‘Spectacular’ Alex Palmer named in Team of the Year after what he’s done

West Brom star Alex Palmer has been named in The Football League Paper’s Championship Team of the Year so far following his performances this season.

Selecting its XI of the campaign on page nine of its print edition on Sunday (31 March), the newspaper said the 27-year-old has become one of the most dependable keepers in the second tier after recording a highlight reel of “spectacular saves”.

It added that the Albion stopper will be high in the running to claim the Player of the Season award at The Hawthorns after helping the club challenge for promotion.

Alex Palmer has stepped up his game for West Brom

It was a huge boost for West Brom when Palmer decided he wanted to remain at the club last summer amid interest from Luton Town.

That was a bold move from the keeper as he could now be playing Premier League football, but he clearly felt staying on with Albion was the better move for his career.

He’s put in several superb performances this season, having recorded 16 clean sheets in 39 appearances to put him in contention for the Player of the Season award.

While the Baggies will be keen to ensure he remains with the club for the long term, there’s a chance he could move on this summer if they don’t manage to gain promotion.

But his value will certainly have risen from the £2.5million the Hatters agreed to pay for him last summer and there are still a few more games left for him to continue making an impression at The Hawthorns.
