West Brom: Clinton Morrison in awe at ‘brilliant’ Darnell Furlong in draw v Watford
Clinton Morrison was amazed by Darnell Furlong as the West Brom defender rescued a 2-2 draw against Watford at The Hawthorns on Monday (1 April).
After the visitors took a 2-0 lead, it looked as though any chance of a positive result had gone, before Brandon Thomas-Asante powered home to provide a sliver of hope.
Then, one minute into added time, Furlong stepped up with a fantastic strike from outside the area, helping the Baggies to move four points clear of Norwich City in the Championship playoff spots.
Speaking live via Sky Sports on Monday (1 April, 4:52pm), Morrison said: “It’s Furlong, the right-back. It’s a brilliant strike. He’s probably been one of their best players.
“Diangana into Furlong, you see him hit it and he just zings it. It’s a great finish, leaving [Daniel] Bachmann with no chance. What a finish that is by Furlong – 2-2.”
West Brom salvage point against Watford at the death
Though Carlos Corberan is likely to be disappointed not to claim all three points at home against a bottom-half side. However, it is not the end of the world after results elsewhere in the country.
With the Canaries not able to build on their early opening goal against Leicester City on Monday 1 April, eventually losing 3-1, the Baggies have now moved four points ahead of the playoff rivals.
West Brom are still set to finish the campaign in the top-six spots, though anything is possible and Corberan must make sure that his side wins as many points as possible in the end-of-season run-in.
There was some slight controversy during the Championship clash, with Kyle Bartley visibly frustrated after suggesting that an offside should have been awarded in the build-up to Watford’s opening goal.
If that is the case, it is a shame to see such a decision made. But that can only be used as an excuse so much before turning to themselves as a reason for the 2-2 draw.
In other West Brom news, a £1.58billion claim has emerged as Shilen Patel completes the takeover to become the new Baggies chairman.
