West Brom: Kyle Bartley fuming after what happened in draw v Watford
West Brom defender Kyle Bartley was left fuming after a controversial moment during the 2-2 draw with Watford at The Hawthorns on Monday (1 April).
Edo Kayembe opened the scoring for the visitors on the 51st-minute mark, firing home from the edge of the box after Semi Ajayi cleared a corner.
However, Bartley was infuriated by the awarding of the initial corner, with the centre-back calling for an offside decision against the Hornets in the build-up.
Taking to X on Monday (1 April), Express and Star journalist Jonny Drury wrote: “Came from a corner given with an offside call in the build-up. Bartley fuming with the assistant ref.”
West Brom suffer slip-up to Watford at The Hawthorns
While West Brom will, rightly, be frustrated with the decision not to give the offside decision in the build-up to Watford’s goal, Carlos Corberan will be even more disappointed with his players.
As the ball bounced out to Kayembe, only one of the Baggies players made any effort to close the Watford man down, with Brandon Thomas-Asante seen jogging to the edge of the box.
Of course, referees must make sure that each decision is correct, and Bartley has every reason to be annoyed, but that does not mean anyone can afford to switch off as most of the West Brom squad did.
Considering that the Baggies are targeting a top-six finish, and wanting to claim an elusive playoff spot, a draw at home to a team in the bottom half of the table is somewhat disheartening.
Luckily, Norwich City failed to take advantage of their early lead against Leicester City on Saturday, eventually losing the match 3-1 and leaving the King Power with nothing.
