West Brom: Carlos Corberan snub causes confusion as EFL make Wednesday announcement

BBC Radio WM commentator Steve Hermon has been left baffled by the news that West Brom manager Carlos Corberan has not been nominated for Championship Manager of the Season.

The announcement came from the EFL on 3 April which saw Kieran McKenna, Daniel Farke and Liam Rosenior nominated for the award.

This has come despite the Baggies spending the majority of the season in the playoff spots with limited funds.

With that being said, the job that Corberan has done at The Hawthorns has been heavily praised by fans but not recognised by the league itself.

In a post to X, Hermon shared his bemusement at the shortlist released by the EFL. He said: “No disrespect but how has Liam Rosenior got a MOTY nomination ahead of Carlos Corberan??”

This statement was echoed by many fans who have been left confused by the snubbing of their gaffer.

Is Carlos Corberan deserving of a Manager of the Season nomination for West Brom?

West Brom are currently occupying fifth place in the Championship. With six games left to play, they have an eight-point cushion inside the play-off places.

This has been done despite spending no money on transfers either in the summer or in the January transfer window.

Albion made just two free transfers in Yann M’Vila and Josh Maja. These were added to by five loanees.

Compare this to other sides in the top six such as Southampton, Leeds United and Leicester City, Corberan has succeeded on a shoestring budget.

He has guided the Baggies to 19 wins so far this campaign which puts them in a good position to potentially return to the Premier League.

As Hermon mentioned, has Rosenior done a better job with Hull City than Corberan with West Brom?

Given that the Tigers sit in 10th place after spending over £8m and signing 17 players to add to their squad for the season [Transfermarkt].

It is fair to say with everything taken into account that Corberan shouldn’t have been overlooked in the EFL’s nominees.
