West Brom: Carlos Corberan sets Grady Diangana fresh challenge in new playoff admission
West Brom manager Carlos Corberan has challenged Grady Diangana to continue to improve his mentality between now and the end of the season.
The 25-year-old has been in excellent form since returning from the African Cup of Nations with DR Congo and impressed from the bench in the Baggies’ 2-2 draw with Watford last time out as he laid on two assists.
While Corberan has heaped praise on the winger following his recent performances, he has encouraged Diangana to kick on and not “give up” as the Baggies push to secure their place in the Championship top six.
As quoted by Birmingham Live (4 April) he said: “Without any doubt, Grady is growing a lot in his mentality. Hopefully, we can use this quality always, but it’s important with the mentality to keep insisting, to not resist or give up.
“In the previous game [at Millwall] he achieved the penalty, in the previous game he made a very good recovery very close to the box. On Monday he was involved in both goals. It’s important that he knows and realises that why he is making these things is a question of mentality more than quality.”
Will Grady Diangana start for West Brom against Stoke City?
There was plenty of speculation surrounding Diangana’s future during the summer transfer window at The Hawthorns, but the Baggies’ decision to keep him has been vindicated already this season.
The 25-year-old has scored seven goals and laid on seven assists for his teammates in 30 Championship appearances this term and his display against Watford showed that he can change an entire game at the drop of a hat.

For Diangana and the rest of his teammates at The Hawthorns, the next challenge is finding a way to maintain this form for the final weeks of the season. The Baggies never know when they’re beaten and that has to remain the case for the next month.
While it seems incredibly likely Albion will book their place in the playoff places, Corberan will want his West Brom side to pose a serious challenge to those teams fighting for promotion. The Baggies aren’t there to make up the numbers.
