West Brom: Shilen Patel sends message after 2-2 draw v Stoke at Bet365 Stadium
Shilen Patel has sent a message to West Brom and the supporters after the 2-2 Championship draw with Stoke at the Bet365 Stadium on 6 April.
Albion led 2-0 thanks to goals from Mikey Johnston and Jed Wallace before Million Manhoef and Andre Vidigal turned the score on its head, frustrating the Baggies to just one point.
With the race for the playoff places quickly hotting up, just six points separate West Brom in fifth from Coventry in seventh after the Sky Blues secured a shock win against Leeds.
Taking to X following the game, Patel shared; “Missed an opportunity for more points, but still a big week ahead at home. Great away support as usual.”
West Brom push for playoffs stalls
There are plenty of positives to be taken from the result. Albion are now unbeaten in their last nine games, but with three draws in a row against Millwall, Watford and Stoke, they would have been hoping to take more points from those games.
In fact, of that nine-game unbeaten run, five of those were draws with four wins. Converting those solid results into more positive ones will be the key to securing that fifth spot, with concerns beginning to rise that they could be dragged into a scrap.
Norwich, Coventry, Middlesbrough and Hull will all believe they have a shot at securing sixth place, but with Albion’s wins starting to slip while others pick up consistent points, the place that has widely been seen as theirs could be let slip.
Some of the key players in this squad will need to continue their consistently impressive performances to start clawing those wins back and making certain of a place in the playoffs. Any point is good at this stage of the season, but these wins could be crucial.
