Tony Brown slams West Brom in instant reaction to draw v Stoke on BBC Radio WM
After West Bromwich Albion blew a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Stoke City on 6 April, club legend Tony Brown was less than happy with their second-half performance on BBC Radio WM.
Immediately following the full-time whistle, ‘Bomber’ Brown said that the Baggies were ‘under-par’, with Stoke fully deserving of their shared points after scoring twice in 10 second-half minutes to deny West Brom the victory.
The Baggies went into half-time a goal up following Mikey Johnston’s 24th minute strike, and doubled their advantage 12 minutes into the second period though Jed Wallace. However, Stoke rallied in the final half-hour and pulled one back through Million Manhoef on 68 minutes, before Andre Vidigal equalised from a penalty rebound 10 minutes later; Albion goalkeeper Alex Palmer saving his initial effort.
Brown said at full-time: “Stoke were the better side, no doubt about it. When Albion got the two-goal lead you thought they’d go and win this, so it’s disappointing from my point of view when you’re 2-0 up and don’t get the three points.”
West Brom’s play-off security shattered as chasing rivals circle
As Ipswich, Leeds, Leicester and Southampton fight out the most breathtaking of four-way promotion battles above them, West Brom have been happily sat in fifth place for much of the season, well clear of the chasing pack.
However, as the sides ranging between sixth and 10th have undergone improvements in form over recent weeks, Albion have somewhat stagnated, particularly in their last three matches.

A previously watertight Baggies defence, the third best in the Championship, has conceded five goals in this period, with even the returning Cedric Kipre unable to prevent their late collapse at the Bet365 Stadium on Saturday.
It’s only the second time this season that West Brom have given up a two-goal advantage to draw though, and despite recording stalemates in their last three matches, Albion’s nine-game unbeaten run stretches all the way back to February and still leaves them well-placed to secure a play-off spot.
