West Brom: Alex Mowatt must prove his worth as new contract on cards at The Hawthorns
Alex Mowatt is one of several players whose West Brom contract is set to run out at the end of this season and he must ensure he earns a new deal with his performances on the pitch.
Shilen Patel, potentially with influence from Carlos Coberan, will have to make the final call about contract extensions come the end of the season, with some set to be cut in an attempt to balance the books amid financial concerns.
Mowatt has become a regular fixture in Corberan’s first-team at The Hawthorns this season thanks to his impressive displays, but he must ensure he does not let those performances dip as we approach the crucial stages of the season.
Alex Mowatt must earn new West Brom contract
In the 2-2 draw with Stoke, Mowatt struggled to impress as Albion registered just 43 per cent possession, with the midfielder completing just 27 of 34 attempted passes in 87 minutes at a success rate of 79 per cent. [Sofascore]
Of those 34 passes, six were long passes and only two of those found their target, while zero per cent of his four attempted crosses reached their desired target, seeing the midfielder lose possession 11 times.
He also struggled to win his duels, with just two of four successful on the ground and neither of his two attempts in their air going his way, despite a 100 per cent dribble success rate.
However, his defensive stats were impressive again as he chipped in with two clearances, one block and one interception despite playing as the more advanced of the midfield duo alongside combative teammate Okay Yokuslu.

Given the difficulties presented by the financial situation at West Brom, Patel will have to be careful with who does and who doesn’t earn a contract extension, and Mowatt must do everything he can to ensure he does.
