West Brom: Callum Marshall’s dad likes series of tweets amid West Ham United development
Callum Marshall’s dad has reacted after West Brom confirmed the youngster would be returning to West Ham United outside of the transfer window.
The club confirmed via its official website on Tuesday [9 April] that the West Ham loanee would be returning to the London Stadium. However, Albion added that the youngster can re-join their squad upon request.
Marshall arrived at The Hawthorns during the winter transfer window, eager to develop under the guidance of Carlos Corberan, though he has not yet started a match.
His father, Ciaran, has since taken to social media platform X to like a series of messages reacting to the update, with most fans feeling relief and joy at the decision.
Callum Marshall loan spell continues to stall at West Brom
All parties involved will be disappointed with how Marshall’s loan spell has turned out at The Hawthorns, considering his only three appearances have come as a late substitute.
The 19-year-old has not played a single minute since the Baggies’ 2-0 defeat to Southampton in February and has recently dropped out of Corberan’s matchday squad altogether.
Despite his total lack of minutes on the pitch, the West Ham loanee was still called up to the Northern Ireland squad during the international break. However, he was unable to gain any minutes then either.
There is no doubt that Marshall has an abundance of talent, which makes the strange situation at West Brom all the more confusing. Though the club has the option to recall him, it is certainly unlikely.
Although Marshall’s last Premier League 2 appearance came in December, before being loaned out to the Championship, he still remains the league’s top scorer with 16 goals this season.
The young striker will have certainly learned a lot about senior football during his short loan spell, lessons that he can take forward in his career. But the overall feeling will be one of frustration and disappointment.
In other West Brom news, Alex Mowatt must begin to show his worth at The Hawthorns.
