West Brom: Journalist shares what Shilen Patel told him after bumping into him at training ground

Shilen Patel will be present at The Hawthorns as West Brom face Rotherham United in the Championship clash on Wednesday (10 April).

That is according to Joe Chapman, who bumped into the club’s majority shareholder at the training ground on Tuesday 9 April, praising Patel for his “refreshing” energy towards the Baggies.

West Brom could take an important step towards a Championship playoff finish with a victory over the Millers, though the new owner has yet to witness a win in the flesh since purchasing the club.

Taking to X on Tuesday (9 April), Chapman wrote: “On the way out of the training ground today, bumped into Shilen Patel. He’ll be back at The Hawthorns tomorrow.

“It ought to be the norm for an owner of a club to be within it, yet how incredibly refreshing is it after years of what went before? Doesn’t live around the corner, either!”

Can West Brom secure all three points against relegated Rotherham United?

Carlos Corberan will be keen for his side to claim all three points against Rotherham in front of the home crowd, especially with the new owner in attendance.

Three draws on the bounce, against Millwall, Watford and Stoke City, have seen Norwich City catch up to the Baggies in the race for a playoff finish.

With Coventry City also coming into form during the end-of-season run-in, fans will be starting to worry that the team have run out of energy, confidence and the ability to see out games.

While the team’s recent form may cause some to start sweating, Patel’s presence at the club and willingness to get involved will add a much-needed calmness at The Hawthorns, especially after the torrid reign of Lai Guochuan.

West Brom still have Leicester City, Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday and Preston North End still to play, so it is vital that Corberan’s side can start the run-in with a comfortable win over Rotherham.
