Daryl Dike returns to West Brom training ground as injury update shared by BBC Radio WM journalist
West Brom striker Daryl Dike has returned to the club’s training ground as he steps up his return from a serious Achilles injury, according to an injury update from BBC Radio WM journalist Steve Hermon.
Jayson Molumby has also reportedly taken part in his first training session since getting injured in January, but the midfielder is not expected to return to the pitch until the 2024/25 campaign.
Josh Maja, meanwhile, is being assessed daily ahead of a potential return to the matchday squad.
Hermon posted on X: “[West Bromwich Albion] midfielder Jayson Molumby has trained for [the] first time since suffering his injury but won’t be back fit until next season.
“Daryl Dike is also back around the training ground for the next stage of his Achilles rehab.
“Decision on Maja’s return to [the] squad [is] being taken day by day.”
West Brom to be boosted by returning players next season
Dike’s return from an Achilles tendon injury had barely registered for West Brom fans before he was out again, having suffered a repeat of the same problem.
The 23-year-old made a quartet of substitute appearances in January and February against Blackburn Rovers, Norwich City, Birmingham City and Ipswich Town before suffering another rupture that will keep him out until next term.
He and Molumby will not be able to help the Baggies in their promotion push this term, but Maja looks to be close to being involved in the matchday squad again.
With Dike out, Callum Marshall allowed to return to West Ham and Brandon Thomas-Asante recently missing a handful of games with an injury of his own, West Brom have looked a little threadbare up front this season, needing captain Jed Wallace to fill in there on occasion.
However, Maja’s return – which, fittingly, could potentially be against former club Sunderland, the team against which he suffered his injury earlier this season – would be a real boost for Carlos Corberan, giving the head coach an additional attacking option to bring on or even use from the start.
