West Brom midfielder Harry Whitwell says it was a dream come true to make his first-team debut under Carlos Corberan this season.

Whitwell made his first professional appearance as a substitute against Aldershot in the FA Cup on 7 January. He came off the bench in the 63rd minute and managed to assist Tom Fellows' 88th-minute goal to round off the 4-1 win for the Baggies at The Hawthorns.

After netting in his last West Brom Under-21s outing in a Premier League 2 loss to Newcastle, the central midfielder is keen to make that step up a permanent one.

Discussing his recent form, Whitwell told West Brom's official club website (11 April): "The more goals you can score, the more your name’s appearing out there."

“Last year I was playing 21s football, then this year I’ve been more involved in the first team, whether that be training or making my debut. "

“That was a dream come true and every season I’m looking to improve, iron things out, and take things step-by-step to progress every day."

Whitwell's time will come as West Brom make final promotion push

As Whitwell and his West Brom Under-21s teammates continue to impress in the Premier League 2, the senior side are just weeks away from potentially sealing their own return to the top flight as the Championship promotion race goes down to the wire.

With just four regular-season games to go, Albion are on track to secure fifth place and could end up facing any one of Leicester, Ipswich, Leeds or Southampton in their bid to reach the Wembley final.

West Brom
Carlos Corberan has a strong track record with young players from his time at Leeds and Huddersfield.

Having made his debut in West Brom's win over non-league side Aldershot in the FA Cup, replacing ever-present midfielder Alex Mowatt to slot in alongside Nathaniel Chalobah and Josh Shaw, Whitwell will be hoping that similar chances could come his way before the end of this season.

The 18-year-old admitted people will be watching his form for West Brom's youth sides, and when one of those people is Corberan, Whitwell's performances are bound to receive attention at the top level.
