West Brom: Jed Wallace, Josh Maja updates shared by BBC reporter ahead of match v Sunderland
Steve Hermon has suggested Jed Wallace could be in contention to feature for West Brom against Sunderland in Saturday’s (13 April) contest.
Wallace missed the midweek victory over Rotherham United through illness and has been considered doubtful for the visit of Sunderland.
However, Hermon believes he could now be back in contention as he was not part of the Under-21s squad for their game on Friday (12 April).
Josh Maja was named in the starting line-up for the clash with Manchester City, as was full-back Pipa.
“As mentioned earlier, Josh Maja is playing for #WBA U21s tonight,” BBC reporter Hermon posted on his personal X account [12 April].
“He’s expected to play an hour, while Pipa gets a run out too. It should also mean that Jed Wallace is well enough to feature in tomorrow’s game against Sunderland.”
West Brom team news v Sunderland
Maja spent four months on the sidelines before making his return as a substitute in the win over Rotherham.
However, Carlos Corberan clearly feels it is best for the striker to build up his fitness with the U21s, rather than being used as a sub against his former club Sunderland.
As for Wallace, Corberan gave little away in his pre-match press conference, saying only he would monitor the midfielder’s fitness.
Thankfully, it sounds like whatever ruled Wallace out of the game with Rotherham was only a short-term problem and he now looks set to return.
That leaves just Jayson Molumby and Daryl Dike on the injured list as we fast approach the play-offs.
And assuming Albion get over the line and finish in the top six, the target for Maja has to be getting himself ready for those – hopefully – three additional fixtures.
The more options Corberan has all across the pitch, the better chance West Brom have of returning to the Premier League.
