Carlos Corberan can transform Brahima Diarra into top player as West Brom linked with deal
West Brom boss Carlos Corberan could help Huddersfield Town ace Brahima Diarra flourish into a top player at The Hawthorns
Diarra has made 46 appearances for The Terriers since joining the club at 16.
With his 21st birthday now just a few months away, it appears that the midfielder could be set for a new challenge away from the John Smith’s Stadium.
With his contract set to expire this summer, it has been reported online by Belgian news outlet Sudinfo (16 April) that the “versatile” Diarra has been frozen out of the Huddersfield team after refusing to agree terms on a new contract.
The Mali Under-23 international is keen on a new challenge, with the Baggies one of several clubs interested in the 20-year-old.
Corberan’s side face competition from the likes of Leicester and Hull, as well as top-flight teams in Portugal and Belgium, and if West Brom can win the race for Diarra’s signature, it could prove to be a very smart signing.
Carlos Corberan could benefit from adding Brahima Diarra to his ranks at West Brom
Corberan was at Huddersfield while Diarra came through the ranks at the club, and that could help provide West Brom with an edge as they look to bring the youngster to the West Midlands.
Diarra is a talented player with great physical attributes and technique, a statement that is supported by his stats.
As per fbref, the versatile midfielder ranks in the top eight per cent of his positional peers in the Championship this season when it comes to take-ons attempted (5.74 per 90) and the top five per cent when it comes to the number of those take-ons which are successful (3.01).
He is a player who can help out going forward, ranking in the top 13 per cent of Championship attacking-midfielders and wingers this season for the number of carries he has made into the final third (2.46 per 90) and top 12 per cent for the number of assists he has provided (0.27 per 90).
However, it is Diarra’s defensive numbers which are most impressive.
Diarra ranks in the 99th percentile for the number of tackles (2.74) and tackles in the attacking third (0.82 per 90) he has made, as well as for the number of shots he has blocked (0.41 per 90).

With Shilen Patel at the helm, there is the potential for more money to now be spent, but that doesn’t mean the club can’t benefit from bringing in free agents, especially when they have as much potential as Diarra.
In other West Brom news, the Baggies could complete another clever free transfer amid a “fantastic” development.
