West Brom: Forward Grady Diangana ‘in a good place’ as Albion approach crucial run-in

West Brom star Grady Diangana has hailed the impact of head coach Carlos Corberan on his and the team’s good form this season.

West Brom sit fifth in the Championship going into the last three matches of the season and are on the verge of securing a play-off place in their hunt to get back to the Premier League.

Diangana, who has seven goals and eight assists in 32 Championship appearances and featured for DR Congo in the Africa Cup of Nations, said to the club’s website that he is relishing playing under Corberan’s tutelage.

“I’d say I’m in a good place, especially when helping the team out, getting goals and assists, which is the most important thing,” he said prior to facing Leicester on 20 April.

“I’ve learnt a lot this season. I haven’t done well with the goals tally and performances in the last two or three years. It’s given me a level of maturity and learning, and this season’s been about putting it all together.”

Speaking about Corberan, Diangana added: “He’s had a massive impact.

“Especially with the mental side of things, he’s helped me to grow as a person.

Diangana leading the charge for West Brom in Premier League push

West Brom are on course to secure a place in the play-offs and have been quietly producing some of the Championship’s best football while ensuring they keep pace with Ipswich, Leeds, Leicester and Southampton at the top.

Diangana has been key to this, with 15 goal contributions adding to the 11 league goals of centre-forward Brandon Thomas-Asante, while Celtic loanee Mikey Johnston has given the Albion attack a new dimension since arriving in February.

West Brom
Diangana has been an ever-present for West Brom since initially arriving on loan from West Ham in 2019.

Having been one of the main catalysts behind West Brom’s last promotion in 2019-20, now 25-year-old Diangana will hope he can stand up and be one of the Baggies’ most integral figures once again, saying that there’s still “room for improvement” going into the final fixtures.

For Corberan too, achieving play-off success would be a crowning achievement, having been on Marcelo Bielsa’s backroom team as Leeds capitulated in 2018-19, and then the head coach for Huddersfield’s agonising 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest at Wembley in 2022.
