West Brom: Don Goodman slams Okay Yokuslu on Sky Sports after what he did v Leicester City

Don Goodman slammed West Brom midfielder Okay Yokuslu for giving away a penalty in the Championship clash with Leicester City, which finished 2-1.

Yokuslu barged into Jamie Vardy late in the first half of Saturday’s (20 April) contest, but the Leicester striker failed to convert from the spot.

While Goodman did not think the spot-kick should have been awarded, he felt the Albion midfielder should have been clearing the danger.

“I can’t believe first of all that Yokuslu has tried to bring the ball down,” he said on Sky Sports Main Event [20 April, 1:16pm].

“That’s a midfielder back defending. But is it even inside the box? Is it even a foul? There are so many uncertainties.

“I’m surprised the referee doesn’t get help from his assistant. It’s a massive, massive decision. But from Yokuslu, you can’t bring that ball down.”

Leicester City miss first penalty of the season

The decision to award the penalty was a shocker, but Vardy – who was doubtful for the game – was unable to convert from 12 yards, with that the first penalty Leicester have missed this term.

That said, Yokuslu should not have been trying to bring a high ball under control near his own area, let alone allow Vardy to get the wrong side.

The Turkey international was effectively being asked to play at centre-back and did not look comfortable for a large part of the game.

Yokuslu was not alone in looking dodgy at the back, as Wilfred Ndidi’s opener at the King Power Stadium could easily have been prevented.

Carlos Corberan will certainly have a word or two with Yokuslu for his part in the penalty, though, with that an error that simply cannot be made.

After all, if the Baggies are to make the play-offs, one single mistake can ultimately prove the difference between going up and staying down.

In other West Brom news, Goodman believes Albion may already be in talks regarding their first permanent signing of the summer.
