West Brom player ratings v Leicester City: Grady Diangana in 3/10 shocker, MOTM gets 7/10
West Brom fell to an unfortunate 2-1 defeat in Saturday’s (20 April) Championship clash away at Leicester City.
The Baggies spurned a number of glorious chances either side of Wilfred Ndidi and Jamie Vardy registering for the Foxes.
Makeshift striker Jed Wallace deservedly pulled a goal back 14 minutes from time at the King Power Stadium, but it was not to be for Carlos Corberan’s men.
West Brom News rates the performance of each visiting player out of 10, using stats supplied by WhoScored.
Okay Yokuslu at fault for Leicester City penalty
Alex Palmer – 5/10
Was unlucky with the first goal as he made a fine save to keep out the initial effort, before Ndidi turned in. That was only save of note the Albion goalkeeper made, with Leicester’s other two on-target attempts ending in the net.
Darnell Furlong – 5/10
Found himself in some very good positions, but unfortunately he did not make the most of the opportunities that fell his way, failing to convert one big chance in particular. Was somehow outjumped by Vardy for the Foxes’ second goal.
Okay Yokuslu – 4/10
Fired over from in front of goal when the scores were locked at 0-0. Played as a fifth defender and man-marked Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for most of the game, but defining moment was penalty he gave away. A harsh decision it may have been, but he should not have been trying to control the ball.
Kyle Bartley – 5/10
Made three clearances and won two aerial duels but will be disappointed with both goals conceded, which could have been prevented.
Cedric Kipre – 6/10
Perhaps could have got closer to Ndidi for Leicester’s opener. Hit the bar when getting forward and played a superb ball through for Wallace’s goal, meaning he had more of an attacking impact than some others further up the field.
Yann M’Vila anonymous for West Brom
Conor Townsend – 7/10
Very strong defensively as he won the registered the most aerial duels (three) and clearances (four) of any Albion player. Also recorded a joint-high two key passes at the opposite end of the field.
Grady Diangana – 3/10
Pulled out of a 50/50 in the first half which is never a good look. Failed to turn the ball in from a few yards out and missed an even better chance not long after. It was those wasted opportunities at 1-0 down that ultimately cost the Baggies.
Yann M’Vila – 4/10
Corberan took a risk by handing the midfielder a rare start and he did not really catch the eye, not helped by a caution in the first half that left him walking a disciplinary tightrope.
Alex Mowatt – 5/10
Created two key chances and boasted an 89 per cent pass-completion rate, but was never properly in the game and was taken off with around 20 minutes to go.
Mikey Johnston – 6/10
Was his lively best in the first half, albeit he missed a hat-trick of chances that fell his way – one of which was blocked on the line. Faded in the second period and Corberan perhaps could have taken him off earlier than he did.

Jed Wallace – 7/10
Never easy being asked to lead the line, with the absence of Brandon Thomas-Asante felt at times. However, Wallace did very well to fashion one of Johnston’s chances and led the line well with his smart movement. Took his chance brilliantly to pull one back for Albion, but that was his last involvement.
In other West Brom news, Corberan has already held talks with Shilen Patel regarding some out-of-contract players.
