West Brom: Don Goodman makes Championship top-six prediction after loss to Leicester City

Don Goodman fully expects West Brom to still finish in the Championship’s top six, despite Saturday’s (20 April) 2-1 loss to Leicester City.

The Baggies were unfortunate to be on the end of a defeat at the King Power Stadium, having created far more chances than their opponents.

An inability to put the ball in the back of the net ultimately cost Carlos Corberan’s men, who are now left looking over their shoulder.

However, speaking on Sky Sports Main Event [20 April, 2:27pm], Goodman said: “It’s been a sensational game between two very good teams.

“It’s scant consolation for West Bromwich Albion, but I do believe that if their performance levels remain the same then they’ll be in the top six come the end of the season.”

West Brom still on course to make play-offs

West Brom were hard done by in their defeat to Leicester, but they cannot afford to feel sorry for themselves at this late stage of the season.

The bottom line is that the Baggies have now won just one of their past six league matches, which includes back-to-back defeats.

It goes without saying that this is far from ideal form heading into the play-offs, but getting over the dotted line is the immediate priority.

Thankfully, Albion’s consistency across the first seven months or so of the campaign helped build up a nice buffer on the chasing pack.

It is vital now, though, that Corberan’s charges get back to winning ways against Sheffield Wednesday next weekend.

Even if a play-off spot is sealed by then, the Baggies could do with building momentum before concluding the campaign against Preston.

While it is easy to be downbeat right now, West Brom have been in the top six for the vast majority of the campaign for a reason. And once in the play-offs, it really is all up for grabs.
