West Brom: Carlos Corberan ‘loving’ pressure of Championship promotion race
West Brom manager Carlos Corberan believes his side are still in a “good position” as the race for promotion from the Championship intensifies.
Corberan said that despite failing to convert numerous chances in the 2-1 defeat at league leaders Leicester, he is confident his side can reach the Premier League via the play-offs.
Albion are currently fifth in the table with a six-point buffer to seventh-placed Hull, who have a game in hand, and are level on points with Norwich in sixth.
Speaking to the Express and Star, Corberan discussed the mounting pressure on his side, saying: “It’s excellent. I love this pressure. I love to be fighting for the play-offs. I am preparing for this – I am ready to fight until the last second of the last game.
“We’re in a good position to fight for this, I’m proud of what we’re doing. I don’t care whether we’re fifth or sixth. I want the most points we can achieve.
“I don’t feel pressure, I feel fully motivated to achieve this.”
West Brom have two games to secure Championship play-off place
West Brom travel to relegation-threatened Sheffield Wednesday in their next game, knowing that a win could guarantee their place in the play-offs as the Championship season draws to a climactic close.
Corberan’s comments suggest that he still has full faith in his squad to get the job done, both in terms of qualifying for the play-offs, and achieving Premier League promotion through this route.

However, the Baggies now have suffered back-to-back defeats for only the second time this season, and that’s far from the form which saw them put together an unbeaten run of 10 games.
Albion’s next two games, against Sheffield Wednesday and Preston, also came in a back-to-back spell earlier in the season, and West Brom won both games by an aggregate score of 5-0.
If Corberan can inspire West Brom to return to the winner’s circle against Sheffield Wednesday on April 27, their home game against Preston on the final day could have the Hawthorns rocking as the Baggies faithful prepare for an optimistic play-off push.
