Carlos Corberan shares Danny Rohl similarity ahead of Sheffield Wednesday v West Brom

West Brom manager Carlos Corberan has sung the praises of his Sheffield Wednesday counterpart Danny Rohl before their Championship clash and shared a similarity between the two.

The Baggies face Wednesday in their penultimate match of the regular Championship season at Hillsborough on Saturday (27 April), with both sides on the verge of completing their respective objectives.

Corberan’s West Brom side are seeking a win as they aim to officially seal a place in the play-offs, while three points for Rohl’s Wednesday – who are 21st – will see them take another step towards survival.

Speaking to West Brom’s club website (25 April), Corberan said: “(Danny Rohl’s) journey is similar to mine – starting off as an analyst and a coach and being an assistant and then becoming a manager.

“We have both been everything we can be in football to try and grow in this world.

“It’s not a coincidence that (Wednesday) can now achieve their target of staying in the Championship. It’s a consequence of his work and him being a very good coach, as well as having good players to work with.”

Carlos Corberan has West Brom on the verge of Championship play-offs

West Brom have a simple task on their hands in the final two games of the Championship season: claim as many points as they can to build strong momentum ahead of the play-offs.

The Baggies are almost there in the race for the top six, sat fifth in the table with a three-point cushion (and vastly superior goal difference) to seventh-placed Hull City.

Albion have already beaten Sheffield Wednesday this season, 1-0 at the Hawthorns in October, but that was roughly a week before Rohl arrived through the doors at Hillsborough and began to turn Wednesday’s season around.

Corberan’s side come into this game off the back of two straight losses for only the second time this season, while Wednesday are unbeaten in their last four matches and dispatched Blackburn 3-1 last time out.

It’s two teams who have their seasons on the line, and while the saying “form goes out the window” is usually reserved for big occasions such as the play-offs, Corberan will be hoping that old adage arrives two weeks early and his side can return to winning ways at Hillsborough.
