West Brom supporters will be fearful as Carlos Corberan update emerges on Tom Fellows
West Brom will need all the help they can get in their final two matches of the Championship season as they look to secure a play-off position.
The Baggies need just three points from their final two matches of the season to all but secure a place in this year’s play-offs.
Four points would mathematically guarantee their spot, and with a trip to relegation-threatened Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday (27 April) ahead of the visit of 10th-placed Preston on the final day of the season (4 May), West Brom will feel as if four points is more than achievable.
However, there is no easy game in the Championship, and after back-to-back defeats, some of the players might be feeling the pressure.
Carlos Corberan will need everyone in his squad at 100 per cent over the next two weeks, which is why his most recent update on Tom Fellows will come as a cause for concern among supporters at The Hawthorns.
Speaking ahead of the trip to Hillsborough, Corberan confirmed that Fellows is yet to train this week as he manages a minor groin issue (via Birmingham Live, 24 April).
The West Brom boss said, “Let’s see how he progresses but I think he will normally be fine, but he couldn’t make the normal days of the other players.
“I can tell you that he is the only player who has been working differently this week. Still we are in the middle of the preparations, but everyone has been fine.”
Tom Fellows has been impressive for West Brom under Carlos Corberan this season
The breakthrough of Fellows at The Hawthorns has been one of many highlights from West Brom’s season.
The 20-year-old has started 13 Championship matches, scoring four goals and providing three assists, while he also got himself on the scoresheet and provided an assist in the FA Cup too.
Fellows isn’t a key first-team starter, and Corberan does have plenty of options out wide which means even if the forward isn’t able to play against Sheffield Wednesday, it won’t necessarily set off alarm bells.
However, he is still an incredibly useful option to have in the squad, and Corberan will hope the wideman can play some part between now and the end of the season.
As per fbref, Fellows is efficient in front of goal, ranking in the 94th percentile of his positional peers in the Championship this season for the percentage of his shots which are on target (47.1 per cent per 90), as well as the 98th percentile for his goals-to-shot ratio (0.24 per 90).
He is creative too, ranking in the 99th percentile of Championship attacking midfielders and wingers for the number of crosses he has played into the penalty area (0.90 per 90).
On the ball Fellows is a problem, with the youngster positioned in the top eight per cent for the number of progressive carries he has made (4.77 per 90) and the top 19 per cent for the number of fouls that he draws (1.94 per 90).

Fellows is someone who can make a difference, and West Brom supporters will hope he can continue to make the difference which fires them back to the Premier League.
