Tony Brown makes nervous West Brom prediction v Preston at The Hawthorns

Tony Brown believes West Brom are set for a “nervous time” against Preston North End at The Hawthorns next Saturday (4 May).

The Baggies were beaten 3-0 by Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday (27 April).

It was the club’s third straight Championship defeat, and with Hull City now breathing down their necks, Brown believes the final game of the season is set to be a tense one for West Brom supporters.

While speaking on BBC Radio West Midlands (5:02 pm, 27 April), Brown said, “They have got to shake themselves down a bit for next week, they have still got it in their own hands.

“It is going to be a nervous time next week at The Hawthorns, I know it will be full.

“They’ll have to work on it in the week, I am sure they will, Carlos Corberan’s got a lot of work to do on that training pitch next week, he has got to get them believing again.”

The Baggies couldn’t have picked a worse time to find some of their most inconsistent form of the season.

Corberan’s side have just one win from their last seven Championship matches, and despite this, they still find themselves sitting in a play-off position.

Had it not been for this dreadful run of form, the club would already be secure of a place in the top six and it would be party time at The Hawthorns next week.

Instead, they are now set for an incredibly tense finish to what has otherwise been a memorable campaign.

Luckily for West Brom fans, Hull City have a much inferior goal difference, and three points against Preston should be enough to at least secure a sixth-place finish.

Either way, it is set up to be a much more stressful finish than it needed to be, and if the players somehow let their position in the play-off places slip, it would surely be hard for a lot of them to forgive themselves.
