Wolves told West Brom allegiance not a factor for Aaron Ramsdale amid Arsenal transfer link

Don Goodman says Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale should not let the fact he is a West Brom fan determine if he should join Wolves.

The Sun reported on 20 April that Wolves are lining up a move for the England international, who has fallen out of favour at Arsenal this season.

That rumour appears strange on the face of it given Ramsdale’s boyhood allegiance to West Brom, who are fierce rivals of Wolves.

But Goodman, who represented both clubs in his playing days, insists that will not be a factor when it comes to Ramsdale making a decision.

“It’s about doing what’s best for your career,” he told West Brom News. “I played with David Kelly at Wolverhampton Wanderers and he’s a massive West Bromwich Albion fan, so it’s not really an issue.

“At the end of the day, it’s something as a player you have to remove yourself from. He needs to decide what’s best for his career – is that going to be Wolverhampton Wanderers?

“With respect, is Ramsdale going to get opportunities at bigger clubs, so to speak – a club in the Champions League or striving to get in the Champions League? He’s got to weigh everything up, but the fact he was a West Bromwich Albion supporter growing up won’t be a factor.”

Aaron Ramsdale struggling for minutes at Arsenal

Ramsdale could do with finding himself a new club one way or another in the summer as he is clearly not fancied by Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.

If he is to leave Arsenal, though, it will surely be for a club in the top six, rather than a Wolves side set to finish this term in the bottom half.

In fairness, if Ramsdale is offered a deal by one of West Brom’s rivals and it suits him, he has every right to sign it.

Huge West Brom takeover news at The Hawthorns

A footballer’s career is only short and, in this instance, Ramsdale’s allegiance with West Brom will always be there.

Ramsdale has made no secret of his love for the Baggies, and many supporters will no doubt hope he will one day be at The Hawthorns.

If that is to ever happen, promotion back to the Premier League is a must. Until then, fingers crossed Ramsdale can get his career back on track, whether that is at Arsenal or elsewhere.

In other West Brom news, Goodman has shared his worry over Daryl Dike as he continues to recover from his latest injury setback.
