West Brom consider Everton youngster Ed Jones after trial v Leeds United
West Brom are considering Everton youngster Ed Jones after he played in an Under-21s game against Leeds United on trial, according to the Express and Star.
The report on 29 April details that, in West Brom’s Under-21s 4-2 victory over Leeds’ Under-21s at the Hawthorns, 19-year-old trialist Jones started at centre-back and played the first half.
The Everton academy product was replaced by another trialist at the interval – 18-year-old Wolves product Muhamed Diomande.
West Brom look to bolster their youth ranks with Premier League academy talent
West Brom’s academy stars may find their path to the first team less blocked than usual come the end of the season.
The Baggies are set for a summer of significant turnover, with as many as 14 first-team players on deals that expire in the summer, either as loan transfers come to an end or permanent contracts expire.
A further nine are entering the final year of their deals and four more will have just two seasons to run before their terms run out as well.
The scale and nature of the squad overhaul set to occur at the Hawthorns will be defined by whether or not West Brom are able to pull off promotion via the playoffs – assuming they do secure their top-six spot on the final day of the Championship season.

Should the Baggies remain in the second tier, the best and brightest of the club’s emerging talent may be given the chance to impress. Whether that group includes Jones or Diomande remains to be seen.
