West Brom confirmed XI v Preston North End as Tom Fellows call made in three changes
Carlos Corberan has named his starting line-up for the Championship clash between West Brom and Preston North End.
The Baggies welcome Preston to The Hawthorns on the final day of the regular campaign with their place in the play-offs still not guaranteed.
Last week’s 3-0 loss at relegation-threatened Sheffield Wednesday was a shock to the system, and Corberan has made three changes to his XI.
As confirmed by Albion’s official X account [4 May], Yann M’Vila, Matt Phillips and Jed Wallace all drop out of the side. Brandon Thomas-Asante returns, as do Alex Mowatt and Tom Fellows.
The three players to make way are all named among the substitutes for West Brom, who will be skippered by Kyle Bartley.
West Brom have to beat Preston
Albion have been off the boil for a while now and quite simply have to respond to last week’s shocking defeat to Wednesday in this final home outing of the regular season.
For West Brom to miss out on the top six, having been in fifth place for the vast majority of the campaign, would be gut-wrenching.
Albion could lose and still make it into the play-offs, but Carlos Corberan will not want to take that risk.
Instead, three points have to be the target against PNE, which in turn would help to rebuild some momentum ahead of a clash against Ipswich Town or more likely Leeds United.
If the Baggies do lose, they will need Hull City to slip up against lowly Plymouth Argyle.
It makes for a far nervier final day than many would have expected a few weeks back, but there is no reason why Corberan’s men cannot get the job done.
The changes made were predicted by many, so let’s hope those selected can get the job done and set up an exciting few weeks.
