West Brom lead race to sign Aiden McGinlay as summer transfer news emerges

West Brom and Stoke are leading the race to sign Queen’s Park teenager Aiden McGinlay, according to TEAMtalk.

The report on 9 May reveals that the Scottish winger has attracted interest from a number of sides, including Celtic, Ipswich Town and Norwich City.

Furthermore, as McGinlay only joined his current club from Partick Thistle in January, the compensation fee for the 17-year-old would be minimal, enhancing his appeal.

Can West Brom land exciting talent Aiden McGinlay?

West Brom’s youth ranks have been poached for their top talents at times over the last few seasons and the club are clearly keen to bolster the academy with quality to make up for that.

Tim Iroegbunam was a notable loss in 2021, for example, with the midfielder swapping West Brom for Aston Villa – and he is now on the cusp of a breakthrough into Unai Emery’s first-team squad.

However, Tom Fellows has blazed a trail from the academy into the first team at The Hawthorns, scoring four goals and adding three assists in 33 Championship appearances and playing a significant role in the Baggies’ run to the playoffs, where they will face Southampton in the first leg of the semi-final on 12 May.

West Brom will hope – if they can beat Stoke and a clutch of other clubs to the signing of McGinlay – that the Scottish teenager can follow in Fellows’ footsteps and make an impact in the senior squad.

With Fellows the only member of the first-team squad who will have more than two years left to run on his contract following the conclusion of the season, future planning is more important than ever for the Baggies.

In other West Brom news, Corberan should be wary of one Southampton player after his recent admission.
