Josh Maja nowhere to be seen in squad – West Brom confirmed XI v Southampton

Carlos Corberan has named an unchanged West Brom starting lineup for the first leg of the Championship playoff semi-final against Southampton.

The Baggies claimed a dominant 3-0 win in their final regular season game of the season last time out, and the boss has opted to go with the same side for the clash at The Hawthorns.

But striker Josh Maja has been left out of the 20-man squad entirely with Andreas Weimann, Jed Wallace and Matty Phillips making up the attacking options on the bench for the clash.

West Brom must start fast to beat Southampton

Considering the form of the teams coming into this game, the Baggies will know that they must start fast to have a strong chance of getting the win.

The Saints will be looking to control the game and quieten down The Hawthorns crowd in order to play their possession football and let their offensive quality shine through.

But Corberan is a manager who has made a name for himself tactically, often adapting to the opponents and coming up with a game plan to counteract it well and he will have done the same here with this lineup.

There is plenty of pace and a goal threat in the squad too which should make Southampton have a bit of fear at least, and with a fast start and an early goal they will give themselves the perfect platform for a strong game.

No tie will be won or lost today such is the quality of both teams, but the home crowd will have a huge say in the performances and West Brom must use that to their advantage.

In other West Brom news, the club want to sign one midfielder who has failed to agree a new contract elsewhere.
