West Brom fans ‘should be ashamed’ after Carlos Corberan stance – Don Goodman
Don Goodman has slammed the “ridiculous” small number of West Brom supporters who turned on Carlos Corberan during the club’s recent wobble.
The Spaniard has worked wonders during his time at The Hawthorns, even more so when factoring in the club’s financial constraints under the now-departed Guochuan Lai.
While the Baggies went on to finish fifth – a position they occupied for most of the campaign – they were sweating over their place in the play-offs heading into the final round of regular-season games.
Some fans on social media and radio phone-ins began to doubt Corberan during a run of one win in seven outings between late March and early May, which culminated in three successive losses.
Having now secured a spot in the play-offs, with Albion level at 0-0 heading into the semi-final second leg with Southampton, Goodman cannot believe Corberan was ever questioned.
“Most of the Albion supporters I know – and I’m still friends with a lot of West Brom fans – they have a rational view about where they are and where they’d like to get to,” he told West Brom News.
“I’ve not heard of any fans calling for his head, but if that’s the case then they should quite frankly be ashamed of themselves. That’s ridiculous.
“To analyse the whole season and see where West Brom are, and that it’s not good enough under the circumstances, it suggests they do not understand football. Thankfully, most West Bromwich Albion supporters do.”
Carlos Corberan working wonders at West Brom
There is an argument to be made that, beyond Kieran McKenna at Ipswich Town, Corberan has been the best manager in the Championship this season.
And if Corberan was to be plucked away by another team down the line, should Albion not make it to the Premier League, it will be extremely difficult to find anyone as good.

West Brom did go through a rough patch at a bad moment, but that happens to every team across a 46-game campaign. All that matters is that you achieve your aim come the final kick on the final day.
In Albion’s case, finishing fifth is way beyond what any supporter envisioned back in August.
It must be said that only a very, very small number of fans doubted Corberan, but thankfully he has proved them wrong by taking the Baggies within two games of the Premier League.
In other West Brom news, Goodman insists Aaron Ramsdale’s affiliation with the Baggies should not stand in the way of a move to Wolves.
