Bolton Wanderers want permanent Zac Ashworth deal as West Brom transfer update emerges
West Brom left-back Zac Ashworth is a target for Bolton Wanderers ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Alan Nixon.
The Sun journalist reported on his Patreon page (20 May) that Wanderers boss Ian Evatt is keen to secure the 21-year-old permanently this summer after he spent the season on loan with the League One side.
Evatt left Ashworth out of his side for the entirety of Bolton’s playoff campaign as he wasn’t named on the bench for either leg of the semi-final against Burnley or the Wembley defeat to Oxford United.
Bolton have several players who are expected to leave on loan after they missed out on promotion to the Championship and are set to release several stars following upcoming face-to-face meetings.
Will West Brom sell Zac Ashworth to Bolton in the summer transfer window?
Ashworth has had a strange loan spell away from The Hawthorns as the 21-year-old has never managed to hold down a consistent place in the Bolton starting XI, only starting six league matches across the whole season.
With that lack of regular football, it feels unlikely that Carlos Corberan will be desperate to throw the Welshman straight back into his first team this summer, especially as Albion look to push for the top six again next term.
There is uncertainty around The Hawthorns around what the squad will look like come the start of next season, with several stars’ contracts running out and that could see the Baggies push to keep Ashworth in the midlands.

However, if the right offer arrives for a defender who is very much on the fringes of Corberan’s squad, Albion simply have to accept it as that money can be quickly invested back into potential incoming this summer.
This deal will be one that could be concluded very quickly.
