West Brom face anxious wait after Alex Mowatt contract decision on Wednesday
West Brom and Carlos Corberan face an anxious wait after Alex Mowatt was offered a new contract at The Hawthorns.
The Baggies’ season ended in disappointment as they were beaten 3-1 on aggregate by Southampton in the play-off semi-finals.
That defeat means they will play for a fourth consecutive season in the Championship next year as Corberan once again looks to guide his side back to the Premier League.
To do that, the West Brom boss will be keen to keep hold of his best players from last season.
On Wednesday (22 May) the club announced their released and retained lists for the 2023/24 season.
Matt Phillips, Adam Reach, Nathaniel Chalobah and Erik Pieters are all set to leave the club upon the expiration of their contracts.
Meanwhile, Cedric Kipre, Kyle Bartley and Mowatt have all been offered new deals.
Carlos Corberan will be keen for Alex Mowatt to put pen to paper at West Brom
Corberan will hope to see Mowatt agree to extend his time at The Hawthorns.
The 29-year-old was a key player during the 2023/24 campaign and would be a useful option to have as the club once again look to make a push for promotion.
As per fbref, Mowatt was the Baggies’ passing maestro last season, ranking in the 96th percentile of his positional peers in the Championship for his pass completion rate over a short distance (94.4 per cent per 90).
In addition, Mowatt was in the top seven per cent of Championship midfielders for the number of passes he attempted (67.30 per 90) and completed (57.93 per 90), as well as the top 13 per cent for his total progressive passes (6.57 per 90).

The Englishman was also effective in possession, ranking in the top nine per cent for the number of carries he made (44.18 per 90), as well as his total carrying distance (246.63 yards per 90) and progressive carrying distance (122.90 yards per 90).
With the contract offer on the table, Corberan must now anxiously await Mowatt’s decision.
