West Brom could regret Adam Reach decision at The Hawthorns amid impressive stats reveal
West Brom might live to regret their decision to let Adam Reach leave The Hawthorns.
The Baggies recently published their released and retained lists for the 2023/24 campaign (West Brom Official Website, 22 May).
Several first-team players from last season are set to leave the club, with Matt Phillips perhaps the most high-profile name on that list.
Erik Pieters, Nathaniel Chalobah and Reach will all also leave The Hawthorns once their contracts expire next month.
Meanwhile, Mikey Johnston, who spent half of the season on loan from Celtic, has returned to Glasgow.
And while the forward might be the most obvious miss next season, the club could also find themselves missing Reach slightly more than they might think.
West Brom could regret decision to let Adam Reach leave The Hawthorns
The decision to not offer Reach a new deal is completely understandable.
He is 31 years old and only made 16 appearances in the Championship last season.
However, the numbers he put up suggest that he might be a bigger miss than expected for West Brom.
As per fbref, the Englishman was in the top one per cent of Championship fullbacks for the number of blocks he made (2.11 per 90) and progressive passes he received (7.61 per 90).
In addition, he ranked among the top seven per cent of his positional peers for the number of shots he blocked (0.70 per 90) and top nine per cent for how many passes he blocked (1.41 per 90).
His own passing numbers weren’t too bad either.
Reach’s completion rate over a medium distance (87.1 per cent per 90) saw him rank in the 86th percentile, while he was among the top ten per cent for his completion rate over a long distance (60.0 per cent per 90).

Although he won’t be considered a major loss, the Baggies might find themselves wishing that they’d offered him a short-term deal should they find themselves depleted on the left-hand side next season.
