West Brom boss Carlos Corberan would likely accept Leicester City job offer as development emerges

Don Goodman says it will be “very hard” for West Brom boss Carlos Corberan to say no to Leicester City if they make an approach.

Leicester are interested in appointing Corberan as Enzo Maresca’s successor [Daily Mail, 24 May] as the Italian looks set to join Chelsea.

Corberan has been a massive success since taking charge in October 2022, guiding Albion into the play-offs in his first full season at The Hawthorns helm.

In the view of Goodman, the opportunity to manage a team in the Premier League could be too much for the Spaniard to say no to.

“When these massive opportunities come your way, it’s very, very hard as a player or a manager to turn them down,” he told West Brom News. “For Carlos to get an opportunity would be really hard for him to turn that down in order to stay at West Brom.

“Yes, he’s had a great time there so far and made a connection with the fans, who love him, and he’s punched way above his weight. They were in a relegation fight when he took over and he’s dragged them out of that, before a really strong season this time around.

“From a personal perspective, you only really find out about a manager, with regards to if they’re ready for a job, once they go into that environment and either succeed or fail – there’s no in between. It could be the same for Corberan.

“So the jury is out and we’ll wait and see, but we know it would be a blow for West Bromwich Albion if he went. I’ll reiterate – once you’re given that opportunity as a player or manager to go to the next level, it’s very difficult to turn it down.”

Who is the favourite to take over at Leicester City?

Corberan is the favourite among many bookmakers to take charge at the King Power Stadium once Maresca finalises his move to Chelsea.

Next on the list is Graham Potter – ironic given he was in charge of Chelsea not so long ago – followed by David Moyes and Mark Robins.

It goes without saying that losing Corberan would be a truly massive blow for the Baggies – arguably more so than losing any single player.

Corberan was to thank for this season’s fifth-placed finish, which was far higher than many predicted Albion would finish back in August.

All we can hope is that Leicester’s focus is actually elsewhere and Corberan does not have any decision to make, or else it could be bad news.

In other West Brom news, the club are reportedly open to selling first-team players on one condition.
