Leicester City ready to pay fee to hire West Brom boss Carlos Corberan despite PSR issues
West Brom manager Carlos Corberan is among Leicester City’s candidates to replace Chelsea-bound Enzo Maresca, according to the Leicester Mercury.
In a report by Jordan Blackwell [28 May], Corberan is currently favourite to step in for Maresca at the Championship champions, with the Spaniard potentially set for his first shot at management in the Premier League and Leicester reportedly prepared to pay compensation for their new man at the helm despite PSR concerns.
Corberan guided Huddersfield Town to the play-off final in 2022 before reaching the semi-finals with Albion this season, and could be tempted by the chance to finally take a crack at the top flight.
Blackwell said: “After taking [West Brom] to fifth and losing to Southampton in the play-off semi-finals, the 41-year-old may feel he has taken the Baggies as far as he can.
“That’s also with the adjustments to the squad that are expected at The Hawthorns as they make sure to meet PSR.”
Corberan may feel it’s time to leave West Brom
It’s hard not to echo the sentiment of Blackwell, or Dan Bardell for that matter, when it comes to Corberan’s decision if he is formally approached by Leicester.
With his squad suffering a mass cull and many at The Hawthorns concerned over the quantity and calibre of replacements for experienced players, Corberan may feel as if he has reached his limit with the club.
Whilst it’s yet to be seen how Maresca can deal with the step up in finances, pressure and board culture at Chelsea, you would back Corberan to be a success with a Foxes side looking to regain stability in the top tier.

And that may not be all for Baggies fans – it’s very feasible if Corberan was to make the move across to the East Midlands, he might take a couple of his key marksmen with him for a sizeable wage increase and a Premier League opportunity.
