West Brom ‘busy summer’ on the cards as finances freed up to complete new signings

Dan Bardell believes West Brom have been wise in keeping hold of some key names while releasing others to afford themselves room in the summer transfer window.

Carlos Corberan is preparing his squad ahead of the new season which has begun by making contract decisions at the end of the season.

The Baggies announced their retained list (22nd May) which will see experienced pros like Matt Phillips, Adam Reach, Nathaniel Chalobah and Erik Pieters leave this summer.

On the flip side Kyle Bartley, Cedric Kipre and Alex Mowatt have been offered new deals to try and keep them at the Hawthorns.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has suggested that these decisions could benefit the Baggies as they look to improve on last season.

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, Bardell said: “I don’t think they were built to go up. I think if they had gone up they’d have come straight back down but we all know the financial gains of being in the Premier League for even one season.

They need to keep hold of some of those players because having that experience of the Championship in your squad is vital. They’ve let a lot of players go, some on big wages who they’ll have wanted rid of.

This will make more room for manoeuvre than they would have had previously. It’s going to be a busy summer for West Brom.

West Brom keep hold of experienced stars

There was plenty of contract situations that were up in the air moving into the summer with the majority now being sorted and announced.

There may have been some surprise to see the likes of Yann M’Vila depart after just three months at the club after joining for free in February.

It is clear that Corberan is looking to go a different direction with the club which has seen seven first-team players depart.

This says a lot about those who have been offered new deals at the Hawthorns as the Spaniard clearly wants them amongst his squad next season.

Kipre has become a key member of the team unexpectedly after being loaned out to Cardiff City last season. This saw him pick up both Player of the Year awards for the campaign.

This is a situation which mirrors that of Mowatt who featured more regularly this season after a year with Middlesbrough.

Bartley has been a key member of the squad for six years which has seen promotion to the Premier League secured.

They all make the squad better overall and Corberan will remain hopeful of keeping them this summer.

That is if he stays on as manager of the Baggies…

In other West Brom news, the club have been tipped to make an “absolutely sensational” signing this summer.
