Leicester City face ‘huge’ issue over hiring West Brom manager Carlos Corberan

West Brom have been offered a boost to their hopes of keeping hold of Carlos Corberan.

As per the Telegraph (30 May), Chelsea have appointed Enzo Marecsa as their new manager.

West Brom supporters are probably reading this and thinking ‘How on earth does this impact us?’

Well, with the European managerial merry-go-round seemingly in full swing, what goes on at Stamford Bridge has a huge impact on what goes on at The Hawthorns.

With Marecsa now West London-bound, that leaves Leicester City without a manager.

As the Foxes get set to return to the Premier League, they will be keen to appoint someone up to the task.

And, as the Daily Mail revealed on 23 May, one name on their shortlist is Corberan, which comes as no surprise.

The 41-year-old enjoyed an impressive campaign with the Baggies last time out and he was always likely to attract interest.

On paper, a Premier League move might be hard for the West Brom boss to turn down.

However, it seems that the Baggies have no reason to worry.

Leicester City could struggle to hire West Brom boss Carlos Corberan

While the Foxes might want Corberan, a move might not be possible.

Further on in the Telegraph’s piece on Maercsa’s move to Chelsea, there was an update on Leicester’s pursuit of a replacement.

And it was an update which will be well-received by supporters at The Hawthorns.

“Carlos Corberan of West Bromwich Albion is one candidate although with Leicester facing huge challenges under Premier League profit and sustainability rules, paying compensation could be an issue.

“Corberan signed a new contract in February keeping him at the club until 2027.”

It now looks as if that new contract in February could prove to be more important than first thought.

The last thing Leicester will want to do is start their return to England’s top flight on a negative points total.

And they are unlikely to risk doing that by hiring Corberan, especially when cheaper options will be available.

This doesn’t mean the Baggies are entirely out of the woods, with The Athletic reporting on 29 May that Burnley are also interested in Corberan.

However, that is not likely to be as favourable of a move for the ex-goalkeeper.

As a result, West Brom fans can start to sleep a little easier for now, as they will be well aware that keeping hold of Corberan will be vital to any promotion push next season.
