Cedric Kipre now wanted in Turkey as West Brom contract mystery continues at The Hawthorns
West Brom defender Cedric Kipre is wanted by Trabzonspor, according to Sabah.
The Turkish newspaper reported via their print edition on Tuesday (4 June, page 11) that Kipre is at the top of their list this summer as they could potentially sign him on a free transfer.
Mundo Deportivo reported on 1 June that Trabzonspor are also looking at Atletico Madrid’s Stefan Savic as the Turkish side looks to reinforce their defence.
What the loss of Cedric Kipre could mean for West Brom
After the Baggies lost in the semi-final of the Championship’s playoffs this season, questions arose about the future of some of their players.
Kipre was one of them as, despite being offered a new contract, he is yet to have agreed an extension with the club.
The defender has been essential to Carlos Corberan’s team this season with the likes of Kyle Bartley and Semi Ajayi both not being able to feature for extended periods of the campaign.
It goes without saying that the loss of Kipre could be devastating to West Brom’s promotion hopes for next season.
The 27-year-old played a total of 48 times for West Brom throughout 2023/24 and became one of their most consistent players.
Across all competitions, he managed to contribute to a total of four goals, with three of them coming as his own.

However, although Kipre’s departure wouldn’t be ideal, it wouldn’t have as big an impact as if Corberan left The Hawthorns.
The Spanish manager has been influential to the Baggies’ upturn in form and has been touted by many as the reason the club found themselves in the playoffs.
Prior to his West Brom stint, he managed Huddersfield and carried the team to the final.
However, it wasn’t meant to be and he eventually resigned from his post.
If the pair leave the club before the start of the 2024/25 term, they could find themselves in some trouble going into the new campaign.
In other West Brom news, the potential compensation fee for Carlos Corberan has been revealed.
