West Brom doubts raised over Carlos Corberan future amid latest Leicester City job talk

Don Goodman insists it is only natural West Brom boss Carlos Corberan will have his head turned while he is being talked of as a contender for the Leicester City job.

Corberan is reportedly one of two frontrunners to succeed Enzo Maresca at the King Power Stadium, alongside former Chelsea coach Graham Potter [The Athletic, 12 June].

The Spaniard is adored by Albion supporters, but he may well have a tough choice to make if concrete interest is forthcoming from Midlands rivals Leicester.

However, Goodman does not believe there is any need for Corberan to come out and put an end to the rumours regarding his future at The Hawthorns.

“Why should he?” Goodman told West Brom News. “If you get an opportunity to work in the Premier League, it’s going to turn your head a little bit, regardless of how attached to a football club you are.

“This is all hypothetical, based on if Leicester do indeed want him, but an opportunity to manage in the Premier League is a very tough one to turn down.”

Carlos Corberan clearly wanted by Leicester City

A few weeks on from Corberan first being touted as an option for Leicester, the 41-year-old continues to be linked with the job.

Not only that, it now sounds as though it is between him and Potter to become the Foxes’ next manager – and there are indications the latter does not fancy it.

West Brom fans may want to bury their heads in the sand, but these constant reports are coming from somewhere. And if Leicester make it clear they want Corberan, it will be interesting to see what decision he makes.

Nobody would begrudge Corberan for wanting to manage in the Premier League, of course, having fallen just short of getting there with Albion, but Leicester does not seem like a very good job to take on.

There are financial issues, possible points deductions and various other problems to resolve. Instead, hopefully Carlos understands that the grass is not always greener and instead stays on at The Hawthorns.
